Description

To cast an echo is an exhibition focused on highlighting artifacts from the Maryland Institute College of Art archives and plaster cast collection. It examines appearances made by the Venus de Milo and Michelangelo’s David plaster casts in archived ephemera from the Institute's digital asset platform. Through a display of curated originals and facsimiles, the Institute’s long-standing relationship with classicism is surveyed. As part of the exhibition, an attempt to archive the present state of the casts for the future is made through 3D scanning and printing replicas. After the exhibition, the 3D printed casts and digital files will be available for check-out in the Materials Library located in the Station building.
